OVERVIEW

Watch in awe as you snorkel close to an enormous whale shark, a gentle giant of a fish that migrates to Mexico to feed on tiny krill and plankton. After a short boat ride, you will reach the home waters of the whale shark – the world’s largest fish – which typically grows up to 40 feet long and can weigh 75,000 pounds. Although its name sounds rather ominous, these massive creatures are quite docile. Once the captain spots one, you will be free to snorkel with the leviathan. The water is typically clear so you should have a great view of the whale shark gracefully and slowly swimming around, unaffected by your presence. If the whale shark is feeding, you will see its toothless mouth open wide and filter the tiny krill and plankton. While whale sharks are generally solitary creatures, they often gather in areas with abundant plankton, so more than one may be present.
