Baja Wildlife And Flora

OVERVIEW

Observe the reptilian wildlife in Mexico’s largest serpentarium and see rescued animals in various stages of rehabilitation. Of the more than 100 species displayed indoors and outdoors, most of them are lizards, snakes, turtles and crocodiles. A naturalist will explain the habits and characteristics of the animals, whether they are endangered and how they ended up at the serpentarium. You may see desert tortoises, rock lizards, spiny chuckwallas, speckled rattlesnakes and Mexican rosy boa constrictors, which have vestigial hind limbs, as they evolved from lizards. During free time, you might browse the collection of arthropods and arachnids, which include centipedes, scorpions and spiders. Jumping spiders are plentiful in Baja California Sur and chances are you will see one. They can leap as high as 25 times their height. A variety of native plants also flourish in the serpentarium, including purple cacti, which are extinct in the wild.
